eSupercharger to Enable Extreme Engine Downsizing
Project with Mahle Powertrain to demonstrate the possibilities in engine downsizing using high-powered 48V e-Superchargers. The resulting engine achieved higher specific power output than any production engine and significant CO2 emissions benefits with negligible turbo-lag. The engine was installed by Mahle Powertrain into a VW Golf GTi along with a 48V supply net and start-stop system.
- Circa 10kW (input power) liquid cooled eSupercharger
- 120,000 rpm centrifugal compressor, grease lubricated bearings
Mahle Powertrain Engine
- 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder gasoline
- 2-stage boosting - eSupercharger & mechanical turbocharger
- Circa 260ps - 161kW/litre
- 313Nm @ 1,200 rpm
High Power e-Compressor for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Research & Development
Development of a compact, high power electric compressor from concept (TRL 1) to prototype bench testing (TRL 4) for 100kW hydrogen fuel cell research and development.
